is there a way to create metaballs on a point cloud in XSI 7? the 2 third party solutions I found (pwrapper, metaballs v2) do not work at the moment as far as I can tell. blobs in ice will not work as I’m looking for a solution that will create geometry.

assuming you want fluid like effect and assuming you have a license of realflow, you can use the .pdc export that comes with xsi then in realflow load the .pdc files, mesh them, and export the bin mesh into xsi 7.

I should have mentioned that the particle simulation is from ice. can I export that as a .pdc file? I have pc2 and .icecache as an option.

The realflow solution should work if I’m able to export the ice point cloud as a .pdc, thank you for the suggestion!

loook up the SDK example workgroup. there is a PDC_Export.dll which you can install.

It’s been a while since this thread was created, but by now there is an extremely nice metaball compound done by Eric Mootz. You can find it at:

It is not for free though. But there is a demo version to test if it fits.
