how can I move the center without moving the whole model?
I went to display > attributes > centers
to have the center visible but I can’t move only the center.

I forgot to tell, I’m using xsi mod tool, so it doesnt work that way.

I use Mod Tool, and it works that way. You’re probably using the defaul modtool view instead of XSI’s actual layout (it is worth switching the layout in my opinion, opens up more options and makes it easier to follow existing tutorials).
Otherwise, when you go to translate the object, try holding the ALT key
