i wanted to do a symmetrical modeling. what i did is that i turned my halved mesh into a model by model->new model in create panel. then i instanced it and scaled the instance -1 to reflect on an axis. then i did my symmetrical modeling. now modeling is done and i want to merge these two into a single polymesh so that i can make some asymmetric tweaks.
simple merge does not apply here. so i deleted the instance and applied ‘symmetrize polygons’.
1.)is there any way of merging the instance without deleting it?
2.)even if the ‘symmetrize polygons’ is applied, it’s still a model. can a model be turned into a polymesh?
thanx in advance.

instances aren’t real goemetry, so the short answer is no.

In the explorer window a model is simply a group. You can drag polymeshes out of the model group and they will “live” as simple polymesh geometry. Any changes made to the model-level hierarchy will no longer propagate to the polymesh, however.

While scottsche answered your questions I just wanted to add that cloning your geometry instead of doing the model and instance process you went through may be a good alternative. It would work more the way you are describing you would like the process to work and clones are considered geo so at the end you can simply merge your two halves.
Clone is found under edit and just like the instance will need to be scaled -1 on x
