hi there,

i tried to find out whether there is a realtime shader similar to mip_grayball (or mirrorball even). All it should do is accept spherical mirrorball probes and render it to the object.
However I havent been able to find something with google, if anyone around here could give a hint id be very thankful.

kind regards
Oliver

...render it to the object.

What does this mean, exactly?  Are you talking about a plain ol’ spherical environment map?

No, that would be an unwrapped mirrorball, for what im after there shouldnt be any unwrapping involved. In Mental Ray there has only been support for it in 3.6 with “environment/more/MR/mip_mirrorball + mip_grayball”.
Further implementations of it would be Zaps chromeball in Max or Zbrushs matcap.

btw it should be a nonbrainer to implement… im just a complete shader coding newbie :(
It is described in this presentation on slide 109 ff, they say its a 3 liner of code

If anyone could help out with this it would be awesome!
Many thanks
