Caustics photons cache

Is there any way to cache the caustics photons ? It takes more to emit the photons then the actual render.

Hello Doomlord,

You have to go to the Mental Ray > Photon Global > and uncheck the “Rebuid Map” option in the Render Region and/or Renderer Options PPG. Just remember to check it back on in case you change your Photon settings so that a new map can be rebuilt and stored.

And don’t forget, when you want to use one phmap for an animation (maybe a simple camera fly through) to edit [Pass].[Frame].phmap to for example [Pass].phmap to avoid a new phmap for each frame.
