Hi,
Do you know what 3-point lighting is? It’s a standard for lighting in film, photography and visual media. It goes as following:
1.)You have a main light (called a key light) that is facing towards your character generally from the upper left above the the character.
2.)Then there is a fill light, which is normally from the bottom right, which is much dimmer than the key light and is used to fill the dark spaces that would be in shadow from the key light.
3.)Finally, there is a backlight, or rim light, which is above and behind your character, either on the left or right and lights up the edges of your character separating it from the background.
It’s easy enough to do, I suggest you google it to get a more in depth tutorial. Remember, its called: 3 point lighting.
And it’s very much a standard for lighting when rendering something to present, though you can always light differently if you want to convey or emphasize something about your piece.
