Hi! the miss_physical shaders including the phenomenon shaders are not working properly. The renders are inaccurate with lots of black spots, I think they are called NaN (not a number). I have come to know from the help files, that caustic photons are necessary for the misss_physical shaders to work, but in by scene the photons aren’t playing there role at all. I am kind of guessing, that in a normal situation the photons would carry the transmission color through the object to create a sss effect. But in my scene, only when I increase the photon intensity to a very high value, does they show up as some white spots. I have attached the screenshot.

I would like to add that the misss_physical is behaving the same way in Maya 2011.
The exact same scene is working nicely in Maya 2009. The caustic photons are doing their job too. It needs some more tweaking but at least I am not getting the black thingy:)
In Softimage 7.01 the the miss_physical shader is not influenced by the caustic photon at all, the sss effect can be achieved just by increasing the light intensity. Is this shader broken or what??? ;)

Another problem I am facing is that there is no back scatter with the misss_fast shader. The screenshot is attached with this post.

The version of Softimage I am using is 2011.5.

Thanks for reading the post. Any suggestion would be very helpful.

Not many helping hands in this forum....I guess. Found a solution to the “misss_fast_shader”, with no back scatter problem, on my own :D I have attached a screen shot of the Rendertree of how to setup the misss_fast_shader. I think this is the correct way. Hope it helps someone.

Gotta go bye.

This is the result I got with the above settings…

Apparently the misss_physical_shaders are buggy in Softimage 2011, and they don’t work in Maya 2011 as well. I have got a fixed, physically correct shader in rray.de and used it to create this scene. Atlast I am happy. WooHoo!

It’s been nice talking to myself.

Cheers…

Signing off for now…
