Hi guys,

I come from a Lightwave 3D background and I have only been exploring XSi 7 trial for the last 2 weeks or so. So far I really like it and may switch to it for my personal work.

I am trying to create a velvet material, however, when I load in the velvet shader from Softimage\XSI_7.0\Data\DSPresets\Shaders\Material\soft3d folder, plug it to the material node and then open the velvet node it crashes. Does anyone have the same issue?

Alternatively does anyone know a better velvet shader that doesn’t crash?

Thanks in advance
Terry

I was able to duplicate the problem with XSI 7.0 x64 on Vista. It crashed on the first try and thereafter.

Is this your only problem related to shaders? Am I the only one waiting for 7.1 (or later) before switching?

EDIT: I’m fairly certain my CPU is fried. So any problems I’ve been having are likely to be attributed to the demise of my system. That goes for other threads as well. Side note: Now, I have a pretty good excuse to upgrade my CPU! (Typing this on my notebook)

Hi Sapien,

I gave up on the shader and create a tree using an ‘incidence’ with a ‘2 colour mix’ instead. So far I haven’t had major issues although I haven’t really pushed xsi yet.

Thanks
