I am trying to create a ball with bumps spaced equally all over it. I have the bump material working fine but I always seem to get the bumps gathering at the top if I use spherical projection or in strange formations if I use planer or cubic, I’ve tried all the combinations. My next move was to create an icosahedron ( seemed like a good idea as the faces are the same size all over) and try to place the bump inside the centre of each triangle, still no luck. Any ideas as to how I might do this?

Hello self, there is a Photoshop plugin that will convert pictures so that they fit on spheres, its by Richard Rosenman and called the sphereical mapping corrector. Do your design, convert it and then use it as a bump map or whatever.
