I am tying to install a network version of Softimage 2010 on my home laptop. I currently have Soft 2010 on my work one, which is Windows XP 32 bit, and runs great. I would like to have both network licenses running, in case of failure of either machine, to have a backup. I am having a problem registering the Windows 7 machine because the Ethernet address is a 23 digit number, which is much more than the windows xp version, and more than the registration web page will allow. I installed the IpV6, but this didn’t seem to fix the issue. Do I need to provide only a part of the ethernet address?
(I hope I understand the eula agreement. I can remove the license from the work machine and register only the home computer...)
I am a subscription user, by the way.

As a Subscription customer with a network license, you can request a Home Use license.

How to request a home use license:
http://xsisupport.wordpress.com/2009/11/05/home-use-licenses/

A Home Use license is a Standalone license, so you need to install the Standalone version of Softimage at home.

To switch from Network licensing to Standalone license:
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS14012663

After you switch to Standalone, start Softimage and click Register. Then you can get the request code that you need for your Standalone license.

Awesome, guys. Thanks for the quick response.

The only problem is that I get an error:

“The serial number you entered is not balid fo rthe product you are trying to activate” Meaning, I assume, that my serial number is tied to a network license. I am going to make a support request and see if they can help. Thanks again.

Just got the answer. Gotta love Autodesk. You guys are the best. There is a “request home use” page on the subscription administration.

Please don’t. You were actually helpful. I still can’t get my new 2011 version installed correctly. I see an Ethernet address that is pretty long and weird. Two different sets of 12-digit numbers inside a set of quotes. Can’t figure out which to use. Perhaps my machine has two different ethernet addresses… Two channels, perhaps. The CPU ID is blank, too, so I can’t use that.

I think I found the answer. I might be able to use either set of numbers.

You can use the DOS command “ipconfig /all” to confirm which network adapter corresponds to which Ethernet address.

For example, on my home machine I too have two Ethernet addresses. One is for my physical network adapater, and one is for the virtual adapter created by my VPN software. If I use the Ethernet address of the virtual adapter, my license will work only when I am VPN’d into work.
