I have an academic version of Softimage with maintanence contract. I was working with WinXP Pro 32 bit and it took about three weeks to get Softimage 2010 set up. I had to reformat the computer to install Win 7 64 bit.

I cannot get Softimage to run, even though I can get the license server to recognize my licence file.

Here is what I have done: I followed the videos to get the license server running and went to autodesk runonce to get a new license.

I restarted the license server and it read the new license. I performed the serve inquiry and the license server is indeed running.

However, Softimage still says “no interactive license”. I looked at the video tutorial, and it talks about modifying the autodesk.lic file. There is no such file on my computer (Softimage 2010 sp1). I don’t know if this is the problem, but I cannot modify a file that doesn’t exist. I could create a new file with notepad, but it looks like the licenses are put in a different directory in Softimage 2010 compared with 7.5.

Edited: I solved the problem. I used the IP address after uninstalling and reinstalling Softimage 2010 (not service pack) and everything now works.

I lost the license again (who knows why). When I try to load the license server, I get this message:
error getting status: Cannot connect to license server system.
The license server manager (lmgrd) has not been started yet,
the wrong port@host or license file is being used, or the
port or hostname in the license file has been changed.
Server name:  192.168.1.4
License path:  @192.168.1.4;
FLEXnet Licensing error:-15,570

Where do I go from here? Thanks.

On the license server, check the LMTOOLS log file.

Thank you so much to Steven Blair. The problem in my case was that the log file in the license server directory was read only based on the directory being read only (not obvious by just right clicking the log file and looking at properties). I don’t know why Win 7 assigned this directory “read only” status. In addition, an IP address change from a new internet connection caused Softimage problems, which he fixed remotely with a hotfix. FWIW, the response from Autodesk was fast and professional and fixed my problem.
