Hello.  Due to my hard disk being full, I recently cloned my old hard disk (120Bb) to a new, larger, drive (600Gb).  Everything went fine, and after running RegistryMechanic to clean up some things I then ran “runonce.bat” (from previous support response on how RegistryMechanic messes up Softimage...) from the Softimage command prompt.

I did this for both XSI Mod Tool 6 and Softimage|XSI Adv 6.02.  I noticed for both applications I received the following registration error:

oleaut32.dll: Registration failed; Result == E_ACCESSDENIED

This is the only problem that I had.

I opened up both programs just to verify they work and Mod Tool 6 seems to open and close just fine (I didn’t try to open a scene).  However, My Softimage|XSI Adv 6.02 appears to open fine but it gave me problems/errors trying to open a scene; and then when I closed it, I get a wierd exiting error (I’ll recreate it and post the exit error later).  I’m wondering if this is related to the oleaut32.dll registration error?

How do I fix this oleaut32.dll registration error so that I get no issues with runonce.bat?  What causes this problem?  Is oleaut32.dll corrupted in my registry somehow?

Please help.

Are you running Vista? In that case running “runonce.bat” as an Administrator might help…

No, I’m afraid I’m somewhat behind the times… I’m running 32-bit Windows XP Professional SP2.  I did execute runonce.bat as “Administrator” (rather than my standard user log-in… which is an admin as well I guess-- since I’m on a standalone workstation) and that only generated more .dll registration errors.

As it looks like more of a Windows problem than a (X)SI problem (but: what do I know? ;) )
and assuming the hard drive you cloned was the drive your windows system was on, you might want to/still be able to try a “system restore” to a date before messing with the registry…

Thanks for your input… Mr. Gates’ “system restore” has never worked for me when I attempted to use it in the past.  The cloning to the new drive worked well in my opinion.

Here’s my latest efforts:  I removed the Microsoft update (kb973923) MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable ATL Update and then reinstalled MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable and the SP1 for it.  Then I downloaded the kb973923 fix and reinstalled that.  During the ATL update it said it was removing older versions of MS Visual C++ 2005 Redist. (in my Add/Remove programs I did notice I had two versions installed) and afterwards I was left with MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable v8.0.59193, I then executed runonce.bat but I still got the same error regarding oleaut32.dll.

I’m wondering if this is some sort of version issue with oleaut32.dll?

However, both XSI Mod Tools 6 and Softimage|XSI Adv 6.02 seem to be working ok.  They both open up scenes, save, export, etc.  It appears I have no problems with Mod Tool, but I get wierd error when I shutdown XSI 6.02.  Right after 6.02 closes I hear a MS “donk” sound and a pop-up that tells me if failed to save a scene, after clicking OK it’s followed by an error problem.  I really don’t have a clue as to what these are related to.

...but I’m thinking or uninstalling/reinstalling XSI 6.02 as my next step.

This error is not important.  oleaut is a fundamental windows dll and it’s probably already registered correctly otherwise nothing would work.
