I have a question for the next coming Version of XSI. I have read that there will be an new license model integrated.

Is it the same “flexible” like the Autodesk license model?

What I mean:
Can I write a key and go to a client to work there with my license without using a dongle?

This is possible in Autodesk products and a very comfortable way.

Do someone have information about that?

The dongleless system (known as SLP) is basically what was being used for Foundation and XSI Student/Teacher.

SLP is streamlined in the sense that if you are connected to the Internet, you can just start up the License Manager and activate your license (or deactivate it). Everything happens beneath the covers (by everything, I mean the LicMgr takes care of generating the request code, sending it to softimage.com, getting the license key file back, and installing the license key).

The ability to deactivate allows you to move your license to another computer.

You should also deactivate your license before doing anything like reinstalling your OS.
Then, after you finish upgrading your system, you can re-activate the license.[/INDENT]

Well, I’ve just tried to deactivate my license on my workstation so that I could activate it on my laptop. To my surprise, License Manager didn’t let me do that; I was told that I need to be a License Administrator to deactivate the license and I need a License Administrator account for that. I have to say this is pretty frustrating. I sent an e-mail to as requested in the error message. :(

Every customer has a License Administrator account.

If it is just you and your copy of XSI, then by default, you are the License Administrator .
A company or studio with many employees and many copies of XSI will have a designated License Administrator account.

In this case, the License Administrator flag was not set for the account. The Licensing team will fix the problem.

My account was fixed so everything works well now and I can deactivate/activate the license.
