I have Softimage 2011 SAP 32 bits. I just downloaded Mental Mill SE 32bit from Autodesk here

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/ser...id=15789162&siteID=123112

and installed it. When I try to run Mental Mill, it’s telling me that my Softimage Licence has expired but I can run Softimage fine.

It look like Mental Mill is not detecting my licence.

Any help to resolve this issue is appreciated.

I don’t have Mental Mill installed yet, I’ll do that later this weekend hopefully.

- Mental Mill may be looking for a .lic file that specifies the location of the license server
- Try setting ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE as a system env var
- It might also be looking at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FLEXlm License Manager\ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE

I’d use Process Monitor, esp. to check if it’s looking for a .lic file (eg in C:\flexlm or elsewhere)

It sounds like mental mill is trying to run with an expired trial (standalone) license.

On my system, mental mill was reading HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FLEXlm License Manager\ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE to find the network license server.

If I deleted that registry value, mental mill would pop up the License Finder, where I could enter the name of the network license server, and mental mill would start up (and stick the license server name into the registry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FLEXlm License Manager\ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE).

mental mill could be picking up some licensing info from other versions of Autodesk software installed on your system.

I have also Mudbox and Freestyle on my machine. Can it be those?

I will try your solution and see what happen!

I tried deleting the registry as per your response and Mental Mill is still asking to activate the licence.

Here is a copy of my registry.

How do you set ADSFLEX_License_File as a system env var?

If mental mill is asking you to Activate, then mental mill is trying to use a standalone license for some reason.

Can you run Process Monitor to log what is going on at mental mill startup?
Send me the log and I’ll review it (if you need an FTP, let me know).

Short how-to video (no audio).

I don’t know if this had anything to do with it but I removed and re-installed 2011 SAP with Mental Ray satellite and it worked. Mental Mill SE is now active.

Thank Stephen for your help.

Cheers! Have a good Holidays!

Daniel
