Unless you reinstall the OS, you should be ok.
If you do need to transfer the license, then go to

Hi @StephenBlair
People on other forums are saying that Autodesk will not be re-issuing licenses for 7.1 in the future. aka If we have to reformat, we have to buy 7.5. This makes no sense but I gotta ask ... Does AD plan on re-issuing licenses for the 7.01 people. Thanx

We provide licensing support for legacy Softimage products. I haven’t heard anything about that service being discontinued.
Customers with older versions of Softimage products, such as XSI 7.01 and earlier, can get licensing support at http://softimage.com/licenseactivation/ or .
The Web form feeds directly into the inbox.

I had to re-license my copy of 7.01 recently (after a HD killed itself), and things were handled quite smoothly.

This is good to know, since I am in the market for a new workstation and I was worried that I couldn’t get a license transfer to the new machine when I get it.
Thank you for the info Stephen Blair, I will be in touch in a few months.

These forums are buggy it doesn’t direct back to the thread after you press submit. Gives one the impression he/she hasn’t posted yet. Is it a bug?

Hi,
My hard disk just died and when i reinstalled xsi 7.0 onto a new hard disk, the license manager refused to work completely. i tried everything in the wiki page but it is still giving me the same error message. Do you have any idea what i could do.

Contact support. A new OS install will invalidate the SLP licensing

I just upgraded my hardware and requested a license transfer from the old machine to the new one. Took two days but very little hassle. Thanks guys!

when upgrading pc components such as motherbaord and cpu, probably best to start from scratch with theh OS install also to prevent any future probelems and to fully optimize your system with the OS. I would assume you would have licensing problems after that… I know Adobe products you have to DEACTIVATE the software before you start tearing down your PC and starting from scratch, then reactivate once up and running.
