hello,

I need to go back and install my older Softimage 2011 SP1 to run on the same license with my current 2012 license. However, once 2011 is installed I am getting license error. I can’t activate the license via my AD account since it keep saying that serial number is not valid. This is very urgent so please answer me ASAP.

Thanks,
Jr.

EDIT: I am no longer on Subscription program, hopefully this is not the case I can’t use my older Softimage packages

I’m sorry, but previous version usage is a Subscription benefit.

Ah man, how is that possible? How come I can’t use a software I bought? I had all my licenses running with no problem but had to reinstall my OS and now this. I have many projects that I have to have ability to open in previous versions. Am I forced to buy a subscription. This is not good.

EDIT: maybe I wasn’t clear enough to explain what I need. I have a DVDs with versions ...2010, 2011, 2012. I simply want for example install version 2011 with its serial number printed on the back. How? Is this impossible?

I thought the previous version usage on Subscription is a benefit of one license working for all packages under. I don’t have a problem to stop running server for 2012 and let it run for 2011 only, or 2010 or 7.5… just want to be flexible for client, because not all of my clients are working with latest version.

Stephen, I would love to hear some better explanation of this issue.
The thing is I didn’t get upgrades from XSI-FND to latest 2012 for free. To install and run latest and latest version of particular software is purely subjective.
How come all my serial numbers became INVALID after my Subscription ended?

Thanks,
Jr.

Previous version usage is the ability to run the three previous versions in addition to the current version. It is a Subscription benefit.

Here’s the Previous Version Usage FAQ.

So, if you are on Subscription, you’ll get a license for the current version (2012) and the three previous versions (2011, 2010, and 7.5).

If you are not on Subscription, then there is no previous version usage benefit, and you get the current version.

When your 2011 license was upgraded to 2012 (while you were under Subscription), you got a new 2012 serial number and the 2011 serial number was retired. As far as I know, this happens even when you are under Subscription, at least for network licenses.

Thanks Stephen, I guess that’s life. I thought upgrades under the Subscription or just regular upgrades never kill any of your previous packages. Something in a vein I can use Adobe or Corel products that are upgraded. I was happy using all Softimage numbers as per clients needs and never thought that’s the subscription benefit only. Tell you this is hard kick since now I am stuck with good but not almighty 2012 release. I wish there is some borrow license option to jump between various backdated releases.
