Can someone clarify who is eligible for this version? I do not have a service contract and have upgraded from Foundation 5.

If I am eligible do I need to request a license, etc?

Thank you in anticipation of help with this question.

Alan

Its a free upgrade for 7.0 users. Just use your existing license.

You dont need a maintenance contract.

But better speak directly to softimage support if you have any questions.

Up till now (read before the Autodesk take over) point updates were always free.

We’ll have to see if AD will keep this way of working, or starts making XSI SP x ext. x versions soon..

7.01 is a free upgrade to any customer with an XSI 7.0 license.

7.01 works with your existing 7.0 license.

I am sure I speak for the many who are not always blissfully ignorant… thanks for the clarification.

The process Autodesk has set up gos like this....A customer/client buys an expensive product and recieves ONLY 30 days of up and running support, thats all. Is this normal bussiness practices clients are acustomed to, NO. Now the reality of a few mobster goons now try to extort more money for what are defacto customary standards elseware, access to downloadable point upgrades as flaws and bugs are fixed in reguards to expensive produt purchased. Access to the vault of Knowledge bases, and other community product users and revists from the mobster thugs coming around a coulpe times a year for your golden subscription payoff. This insurance allows the goons to turn an eye, we wouldn’t wan’t anything to happen to all of those nice new people a client meets. Well we wouldn’t want to burn the bridge to the access to your purchased software point grades, now would we? Clients wouldn’t want to make it hard on themselfs by having to do it on thier own as the vault hold a mountain of treasuretrove of videos, selfguides and tips alot of which are donatable gifts to XSI users by XSI community users for the use of the community. Which now has been under the protection of the likes of Autodesk. Oddly as it sounds the bussiness model suggests for some unknown resoning the community needs protection from its self, for a renewable subscription price. I remember seeing in a movie somewhere; never let a vampire in your home, as the vampire will come back to suck more blood.
Heres another unfortunate victim whom feels its time to use anothor product other than AVID 7.01 server equipment and real investments clients come to grips with - HP XW8000 workstation:
- dual Intel Xeon 3.06GHz CPUs
- 3GB RAM
- Merging Mykerinos ADAT audio card
- Avid Equinox PCI Card
- Windows XP Pro SP2
- Avid DS v7.01 software installed and properly licensed with no time limit.
- Avid DS v7.01 dongle and software cd’s and manuals
- System is fully licensed and transferable. Buyer is responsible for optional Avid transfer fee. Onsite Installation available for local buyers
- Avid Equinox video breakout box with HD-SDI and composite video ins and outs
-3 Avid MediaDock LVD each with 8 x 10,000rpm 70GB SCSI drives (total 1.5TB) and a spare drive
- Merging Dua II audio interface (4ch analog I/O + 4ch digital I/O)

simple google on ‘xsi update download’ would have gotten you this:
http://softimage.com/downloads/

The forums are never the correct place to search for software updates.

Softimage.com has been removed, link defaults to Autodesk and no downloadable updates are accesable

XSI 7.01 is a legacy Avid product.
For licensing and downloads of XSI 7.01 and earlier, please use the web form at http://autodesk.com/softimagemanualactivation.

This thread was started over a year ago, back when softimage.com still existed.

Rork, really? Your comment was not only unhelpful but only speaks to the worst of online communities. As a user of high end 3d software I promise you the mastery of google has not escaped me.
For those who might be willing to actually render assistance, I am asking more specifically if the client needs to be downloaded again or if a simple path is available for the update. Prior to posting I not only looked through the download page but also xsi support and did not find clarification.
As a final note, I don’t feel asking for help from more experienced members of the xsi community is out of bounds in any way. Isn’t that one reason it exists in the first place?

Jeez dude, hold your horses....

I wasn’t trying to be rude in any way, I just pointed you in the right direction for the 7.01 update. People around me show very poor skills in searching on more than one word in any search engine.........

So… to be more helpful in upgrading your version 7 to 7.01, it’s all very simple really:
-go the the mentioned webpage, select the correct XSI version and download.
-after downloading the file, install the new version
-done. no need for renewed licenses etc.
It’s basically downloading and installing a new(er) version of XSI.

And my last remark was just a way of saying that the forums are most of the time a separate part of a company website, run by enthousiasts or company people, and don’t have any info or links listed to the software discussed.
In this case plugins for ICE and such are the exception here.

Hope this will help, and remember.... breathe in.. breathe out ;-)

7.01 does not upgrade the existing 7.0 installation. All Softimage releases are complete, separate installs.

Hi there! I have the 7.01 version (as an update to 7.0) but when it comes to licensing it does not connect to Softimage and get up and running.. Is there any way to fix this apart from completing the form and waiting for at least 24 hours?
