I’m trying to set up a simulation for long hair using a cage deformer on the strands. The cage has a soft-body simulation to give sway and handle collisions with the character’s shoulders (trying to put a simulation directly on the hair strands was a non-starter).
The problem is, any previous grooming on the strands seems to prevent the deformer acting on them during the simulation, even if the hair is first frozen.
Bafflingly, if the cage vertices are moved manually, the hair deforms as expected.
Does anyone know what’s going on, and how to deal with it ?

Ral on XSIbase gave me the solution to this: Shape plot the simulation on the cage and then delete the softbody. Voila! The hair then responds to the cage deformation, and none of that weird stuff that happens when you try to run a simulation on it directly.
