Does anyone know anything about this ?

‘ ERROR : PHEN 0.4 error 051071: broke suspected infinite trace recursion
‘ ERROR : PHEN 0.7 error 051071: broke suspected infinite trace recursion

displayed when rendering hair , using Muh hair shader. There’s nothing excessive about the number of hairs, etc. The only mention I can find on the net suggests that it’s a bug in the shader, but I haven’t seen it before with Muh hair.

yeah, got also the same error.
but the link above doesn´t help a lot. tried the newest muhhair shader. still the error. its definetely the transparancy option. if you turn it off then no error, its a bug.
but without transparancy muhhair looks awfull.
the strange thing is, that it appears randomly in my sequence that i have to render.
does somebody know the programmer? maybe he can fix that....

I’ve just tried using Muhhair again, due to project-killing render times with the standard hair, and had no problems (transparency on). I haven’t done a sequence yet, but given the vastly reduced time-per-frame, it would be worth accepting a few dud frames which needed to be rendered seperately.

Sorry, Christian, I didn’t get around to replying to your answer at the time.

as i wrote, it appears randomly. sometimes i can rerender the frames that are missing due to the error.
maybe it also depends on the secondary rays. i had thenm on 2, but on rerender i put it back to 5 (default).

go to Muh hair shader, in render option TAB ( Muh hair shader)
there is optimization down there, it was 0 by default , change it into something else,
in my case i change it into 20 or maybe less. as long as not 0. q
