I’m having a problem with hairs changing position for no apparent reason. I have an object with a couple hundred hairs which I’m rendering with instanced objects. A couple of times I’ve restarted XSI, e.g. between rendering passes to find that the instances have jumped to new positions. However nothing has changed in the scene. Is there something that I can freeze? It’s almost like the process that generates the render hairs is running again with a different randomization. I’ve had to repeat several renders. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
Ben

Have you tried caching it under the dynamics operator?

Thanks, I’ll try that. I actually did not have a dynamics operator on this hair object. I wonder if it caches the render hairs or just the guide hairs. In either case it’s worth a try.

Well it’s still happening. XSI will occasionally decide to redistribute the hairs/instances. It’s kind of frustrating if I need to rerender something.

i make simple gird with instanced cylinders and after restart and rerender hairs are in this same place. You have static or deformed mesh with hairs? Maybe send me sample scene and i will check.
