how would i smash glass?

i was playing with the physicxs and got it working (im so good :3) so i was wondering if i could do something simular to rayfire?  (i made a ball roll into a brick wall, i made the brick wall simular to the one in the trebucet test that comes with XSI)

old technique, use 2 objects, 1 complete unbroken,and another one make the pieces and break it who you want it.
after hide 1 and set the animation of the explosion of the pieces to hide the complete object and un hide the broken one.
for the simulation you will have to set the ice or set the pieces as particles or better yet as hard dynamics objects.
