Hi everyone,

I’d like to know if there is any way to subdivide the Hair Guides generated by the program once you create Hair from Curves.
I have created several curves styling a girl’s hair. Her hair will be so long, from the head to the waist of her body. The problem, as shown on the image below, is that the guides Softimage creates for the Hair don’t have enough subdivisions to represent the shape I make with my original curves. The main problem comes with the roots zone, as you can see on the image, so I think at least being able to add a point in the middle of the first segment you can see here would solve the problem this time :)

Thanks!

Unfortunately thats all the hair system will do. It cant do long hair, because you can not change the segments to get smooth long hair :( It really should be renamed “fur” because thats about all its good for. It can be used for eyebrows, lashes etc but It doesnt have the segments for long hair.

It has been this way forever and there doesnt appear to be any hope that it will be improved anytime soon.

However, there are ICE solutions such as Melena Hair, and Kristinka Hair. Both are a bit hard to control but they can work well considering.

Thanks for the reply!

I have been trying the Melena and Kristinka before. When I tried the Kristinka it increased a lot the render time of the hair, that’s why I discarded it.
With the Melena, the one I have tried most recently, I found too hard to control it as I whish, but I think I should give it another chance, as it appears there’s no other way to do this…

Thank you for your answer again,

Cheers!

With melena, you can convert a softimage hair style to melena hair. I recommend trying that. It will even take into account the splaying (if i remember correctly). Once you do Melena hair from hair, you go into the conversion node and turn up the amount of hairs that gets filled it. It will generate melena hair not just on the guides, but on the actually filler hair of softimage hair.

So you can style with softimage hair, then convert to melena (and turn up the segments). Its not perfect, but its good.
