Can someone tell me how to change the default paths for XSI Mod Tool 7.5? When I go to the preferences in the Data Management section the User Path, Sample Project Path and Current Project Path are all read only. I want to change these so that when I get the open file dialogs and such they default to where I actually have all my stuff on my computer.

Last attempt, please ignore all earlier attempts: Not sure if this will work, but you could try modifying the “environment variables” in the setenv.bat file. Do this at your own risk however & first of all read about it in the Manual under “Advanced Setup and Configuration” in the chapter “Environment Variable”!

Hmm, sounds complicated. Why isn’t there just a way to change the settings in preferences?

The current project path will change as you open and save scenes from different projects, or if you use the project manager to set the current project.

The User path is fixed to your “User folder”, eg C:\users\blairs\Softimage\Softimage_2010.
Changing the location of the User folder is not a common task. The location is specified by an env var.

The Samples path is the location of the Sample project in the Factory installation folder.

Thanks for the reply.

That much I know. I guess I should be more specific. When I first open XSI and use the XNA Connect to Project. When I do this the default folder is always in my users folder for softimage. I want it to always open to my games folder instead. I am using the XNA plugin, btw.

Hi, where did you get the XSI version of the Mod Tool 7.5.  I just became a premium member of XNA and the download link gave me a none XSI version.  I previously and still do have the XSI 6 Mod Tool, but the update menu no longer works.

I do not have the “mode” menu to be able to switch between the “Mod Tool” and “Pro” layouts.  Is there a plugin for the layout.  I do have the “XNA Game Studio” menu.

There is no XSI version of the Mod Tool 7.5
The incorrect naming in the post above probably stems from a force of habit
(that’s admittedly hard to break...)

Yes there is… I found out the information I needed from a post on XNA. The “mode” menu that allows you to switch from the “Mod Tool” to “Pro” layout is no longer available, just the “XNA Game Studio” menu.

I have to create my own layout, sigh! I didn’t want to put in the time to do this, going to have to it piece by piece… sigh!

Thanks for the reply amyway!....

The “pro” layout is the ‘XSI version’. I’m not sure why Modtool 6 had its own custom layout; I switched that thing back to Pro as quickly as I could (but I suppose if you were trained with that UI, you might miss it). Hopefully it wont be too much of a hassle for you to recreate then

Yea, I’m going through this tutorial to learn how to use the “Pro” layout (http://www.i3dtutorials.com/view/Tutorials/Free-SOFTIMAGE-XSI-Tutorials) and once I get a good feel, then maybe I will contruct a layout, but if I get too good, then I will just stick with the “Pro”

...so far I’m enjoying the “Pro” layout!
