Hi

I recently completed my second live action short film, called ‘The German’ starring Toby Kebbell (Prince of Persia/RocknRolla/Control) and Christian Brassington (Easy Virtue/Elisabeth:the Golden Age).

I did all the animation in XSI (6.5) and utilsed BA Volume Shaders for some shots of the clouds.

I can’t put the film online for a bit because of festivals and stuff but have a trailer and some VFX breakdowns and some more shameless self promotion in the form of a short making of :

Trailer http://vimeo.com/5995301

VFX Breakdowns http://vimeo.com/5996453

Some of you may remember my last short film ‘A Lonely Sky’, which also had an aviation theme, so in keeping with that!

A short synopsis

November 1940, during the greatest conflict man has ever known, an epic duel unfolds between two ace pilots, each willing to take the match to it’s ultimate conclusion. Unknown to the pilots is a fate neither has considered.

Shot on 35mm (anamorphic), and posted at 2K, the opening of the film is an aerial battle between a British Spitfire and a German Me 109, all of which I completed here at Image Now Films over a six month period. This is a combination of Live action/stills and fully CGI shots. There are over 120 Effects shots in the 10 Minute film, all of which I completed by myself. Models were built by Dave Head here at Image Now, but I textured, lit, animated, rendered and composited the entire film.

I have made up a website for the film, which has the trailer and effects breakdowns and the small behind the scenes clip. I have also written a little about the process involved. The Effects budget was a big fat zero, so a lot of long hours again.

I hope you enjoy what you can see of it and will put up some more clips shortly.

Hey Nick - congrats on the film :) for all that great CG work, i wished it could have been a full blown movie! Anyway, looking forward to seeing more when you can post them.
Good luck for the film festival…
