Hello,
I’d like to share a little pluggin for XSI that I’ve been developing over the past year or so in between jobs. I call it The Grow Rig System, and it’s basically a simple auto rigger with a character mesh already attached. Sort of a combination of a rigging tool and a modeling tool.
Here’s a demo video:
http://www.kylevargas.net/growrig/demo/grow_rig_demo.html
It’s a very simple tool, definitely a work in progress. I’ve certainly seen more advanced rig builders out there, but I feel the ideas my system centers around are very strong.
There are many features I have in mind to add to this system but I must admit my scripting and rigging skills are limited. Any feedback
would be a great help, but what I’m really hoping for are any riggers and scripters who would be up for working with me to improve and add to it.
Here’s where to download the files:

So, if you’re interested in any capacity whatsoever, feel free to use it, test it, let me know what you think. And again, if you’re interested in working on it with me I’d love to hear from you.
Enjoy!

really, really cool!
your work is amazing. And thanks for sharing.

This is seriously cool, congratulations.
My problem, as with most character creation systems, is the nude characters they create. I don’t think I’ll ever want a character with bare feet. If you could maybe include some sort of clothing/footwear creation system it’d be better I think.

Excellent job! Your approach looks great!

Fantastic. I downloaded it last night and it’s pretty damn cool. I’m using SI 2010 sp1 though and for some reason under the shapes group in the proportional_rig there are no sliders for Fat, Skinny, Smooth and Muscle. the are all just seperate hidden meshes.
That said I’m still playing around with it and it seems very promising. Thatnks for coming up with this.

Quite Impressive, I will try it out.

Hi Everyone!
So sorry I havent replied to any of your guys’ posts! I must have forgotten to subscribe to the thread.
I really appreciate all the feedback and suggestions.
BigDaz - In future versions I may include some generic costumes to the rigs. However, rather than me trying to second guess what sort of costumes people would want, the user can actually add their own meshes(including costumes)onto a proportional rig by following the “Adding Your Own Elements” section of the User Guide pdf.
If you find yourself needing a lot of characters wearing, say, a military uniform, you can add the meshes for it to the proportional rig, export it or save the scene, and have the ability to make dozens uniquely proportioned soldiers wearing that same uniform.
dmonk/TonyGore - The sliders for the shape weights are actually located under the basemesh of the proportional rig, not under the SHAPES null. The SHAPES null just contains the shape meshes that the shapes are derived from. To access the shape weights of the basemesh, expand the basemesh, and you should see a property called ShapeWeights next to a little “c” icon. Click the “c” icon and a ppg with the sliders should appear.
Thanks again for the comments and suggestions!! :-D
