Hi iKamikaza,
Thanks :) a mere mortal here.

You’re absolutely right, no one can stand white backgrounds for very long times. Most of my text editing programs have a shade of grey.
I’ll put ‘choice of background colour’ in my to-do list.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it.

Hi saajjj,

I’ve installed x64 bit version just now...and it doesn’t work.  dll (ScriptEd.64.dll) is marked red triangle and “Unspecified failure” :(

Maybe I need some Microsoft redistributable x64 things ?? :)

Hi again,
I’ve updated ScriptEd yet again. The major addition in this version is a Layout with ScriptEd integrated. This layout is an exact replica of the “Tool Development Environment” layout with obvious changes :).

Please read the following regarding how to get the ScriptEd layout to work properly. The following steps need to be taken only once:
1. Select View > Layouts > ScriptEd
2. After the new layout has loaded you’ll see a ‘blank’ page where ScriptEd should be.
3. Right click anywhere on that area and select ‘ScriptEd’ from the pop-up menu

Although there is an automatic way of loading ScriptEd on first start into the layout. Cases have been reported where a screen refresh glitch was present in all subsequent sessions. As this is highly undesirable, I have had to resort to the above measure.

Download it here (right click ‘save as’...)

Please do let me know (i.e. post here/email me) if the layout works.

In other news, I have an unsatisfactory implementation of F1 (context sensitive) help working. Unfortunately, I have no idea how the .chm is structured internally and this makes it incredibly difficult to get good results.

My hopes are still high so all is well :-)

Just installed python and ScriptEd - it’s so cool :) Because 64bit system have to wait a while to get it, but this is worth :)
Just have couple small sugestions:
1. Under View there is new position ‘Others’, can ScriptEd be moved to scripting (when it belongs) ?
2. Recent files don’t work after restart
3. After writing when you move over icons, you still have this ‘text cursor’ not an arrow. This is no big deal, but it’s poorly visible (especially when you have hi-res monitor)

About context sensitive help - maybe you can put the whole command into search dialog ? In many cases first result is what XSI’s script editor give us (especially when we set ‘Search titles only’ on.

Layout - when first use it - works fine, but sometimes when switching back and forth, get this (http://streaker.thetastudio.pl/img/xsiselay.jpg), after restart it’s fine.

Hi Streaker,
Thanks for the feedback.

I’ll see what can be done to put ScriptEd under the right menu. I’ve mapped it to Alt + 4, so never use the menus, but you have a fair point.

The Recent Files behaviour is by design, they do not persist across sessions. I’ll add this to my wish list.

This is an issue I had a battle with earlier, but like you said it wasn’t a big deal so I haven’t bothered with a fix. Added to wish list too.
I’m still figuring out how to make context sensitive help work properly. Don’t hold your breath though, I’m busy at work again.

The bug that worries me (2nd) most is the layout issue, when you say ‘switching back and forth’ do you switch between XSI and some other maximized window? I’ve tried switching quite a few times without getting that jpg effect. You said ‘sometimes’ which leads me to believe this is almost random (possibly the worst kind of bug). Just to confirm something: When you selected the ScriptEd layout for the very first time, did you see a blank spot where ScriptEd should be? <-- I’ve asked this because earlier I posted a RAR file with a layout, and that layout version did exactly what you see in the jpg.

In examing the layout issue, I’ve come across a major bug :( Although you can have multiple ScriptEds running in one XSI session. Opening a second XSI and then starting ScriptEd will crash that second XSI. Added to bug list, and a fix to this is now my main priority.

Thanks again, I appreciate the feedback.

In ‘switching back and forth’ I mean switching layouts. When start with, let say, default layout and switch to ScriptEd - it’s fine, when go back to default (or something else) and then switch to ScriptEd again - this error occurs.
But this can be related to my copy only, because when switching layouts (delivered with XSI) it crashes sometime - it’s bom… and XSI is gone, exit to windows.
One more interesting thing - when this error occur history pane log me this:

// INFO : Bye
// INFO : Bye

Thanks for the clarification, I can now replicate the layout glitch you posted in the jpg. It does happen when you switch between layouts. I’ll look into this.

The “// INFO : Bye” will happen whenever a ScriptEd window is closed. It was my failed attempt at humanizing XSI (look.. it talks!) :)

Thanks again.
