Well… that’s kind of weird, but it happens after using obj importer (want to write script that can import multiple files, so use importer to let XSI log me the command to history pane). No scripts have to be open: Switch to ScriptEd layout -> import obj file -> try to switch tabs -> bang, XSI hangs

And my prefs:

11,JScript,4,1,true,true,C:\

Thanks Streaker, I can duplicate the problem now. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any reason why this should happen. It happens if you import an OBJ or an LWO. A regular XSI model imports fine.

I will look into this over the weekend.

The workaround, as you’ve probably found is silly: Switch to another layout, import obj, switch back to the ScriptEd layout. The advantage in using the ScriptEd layout is that you won’t lose any scripting (a floating ScriptEd window, on the other hand, isn’t recycled). Of course, if you’re trying to run a script which does the import, this won’t help at all.

Hi,
I’ve updated the ScriptEd add-on with bug #5 fixed. I would like to thank Streaker for all his help in reproducing it

The fixed version is (as usual) here, (right click ‘save as...’)

Please remember to uninstall ScriptEd from within XSI (Add-on > Uninstall) and also delete the ScriptEd directory from your hard drive. Otherwise the new install may not work properly.

I don’t say this everytime but this was a critical bug, please update :)

Hirazi Blue and CGCris (from xsibase) have forwarded me tons of information regarding help on F1. I’m once again hopeful about it’s proper implementation.

Cheers,

Hi,
I’ve been working on the features to implement in the to-do list for the last couple of days. The good news, it’s all there in ScriptEd v1.6 , the new features include:

Context sensitive help on F1 for XSI commands. Although the SDK help doc will open if F1 is pressed on any word, only XSI commands will open the proper topic as well. Just like the regular XSI script editor, there is no need to highlight the word, as long as the caret is touching the word, the SDK will be triggered.

Code commenting/uncommenting can now be done quickly through shortcut keys. Ctrl + K and Ctrl + U. Single and multiple lines are supported. Edit: I tried adding these commands to the context menu as well, but it isn’t working and I doubt it will.

The background colour of the text editing area is now customizable within limits from white to shades of grey. This can be done in the preferences box (save preferences to set choice as default). In addition to this, there are some other colour values which change automatically to maintain clarity. e.g. Selected texts background colour will always be a shade darker than the background colour. There are a few other places where the same colour adjustment happens automatically.

I have also changed the bundled ScriptEd layout so that it doesn’t need to be initialized on first start. ScriptEd is now visible by default.
Please remember to uninstall ScriptEd from within XSI (Add-on > Uninstall) and also delete the ScriptEd directory from your hard drive. Otherwise the new install may not work properly.

The ScriptEd add-on can be downloaded here (right click, ‘save as...’)

I would once again like to thank everyone who have contributed their ideas to improve the ScriptEd user-experience. Please feel free to post more ideas, your feedback is very welcome.

Cheers,

P.S: As streaker requested, I tried to put ScriptEd under the View > Scripting menu, but it appears that there is no menu anchor point to access that sub menu.

Wouldn’t it be appropriate to open a dedicated webpage for ScriptEd, because, among other reasons, “rumor has it” :D, this forum will cease to exist in the near future?

HB,
I plan to do just that. Sadly, I haven’t had any spare time to setup a webpage. My own webpage severely needs an update too. Hopefully work will finish in a couple of weeks, so I might be able to set something up over Christmas. A dedicated webpage will need a commenting system too, may be I’ll use a blog format.

On another note, I thought AD was going to ‘transfer’ the posts/threads in this forum over to the AREA.
HB,
On another note, I thought AD was going to ‘transfer’ the posts/threads in this forum over to the AREA.

Very Off Topic:
I read two quite contradictory statements about the future XSI-Area: On the one hand - just like you said - the remark that all threads would be “saved” and would reappear on the Area, but on the other, that you wouldn’t be able to transfer your “user account”, but would have to create a new one, which would make “porting” all data to the Area sound somewhat silly… But I’m sure someone on this forum wants to contradict me… If so, please do…
