Another year, yet another Siggraph?

I think not! This having been my 8th consecutive year attending (and working!) the show, I have to say that this one had a unique feel to it. Replacing the palm trees of downtown L.A. were construction pylons that dotted every roadway. No San Antonio River Walk here - instead, we were treated to a beautiful harbor with glamorous yachts and waterfront restaurants.
No, this was not just another Siggraph - it was Siggraph done East Coast-style.
The show itself had a good buzz, good crowds pushing around the show floor and a healthy lineup of courses, lectures and presentations (none of which I had the time to attend). I, of course, was running back and forth from our meeting room to the hotel - conveniently located at what felt like three miles away, on the outer edge of the convention center. I had the pleasure of spending some time with film clients this year, which is always a double-edged sword - I was marveled by their ambitious projects, while at the same time, lashed for missing two of their five top feature requests.
Well... perhaps "lashed" is a bit harsh...;)
Actually our meetings went very well (no lashings!), and I even had the chance to meet with Quantic Dream, who put out the amazing PS3 trailer Heavy Rain. This has to be the first video game trailer to really suck me in; it glued me to my chair, locked my eyes to my screen, and the real world around me faded away. I was mesmerized by the character's dialogue, her eyes, her emotions - it was truly a performance worthy of a real-life actress (and I'm not talking Jennifer Lopez here).
After a meeting like that, you walk out, smile and think, "I make the coolest software on earth."
