Following up on the first MotionBuilder Master Class being posted in the Subscription Center, I am pleased to announce that Jason Parks has published his class, “Python scripting in MotionBuilder” which is sure to be an essential to anyone that wants to really harness the power of MotionBuilder. And he’s not finished there – Jason has hinted at some more tricks up his sleeves, so stay tuned.

You can buy his course here: http://www.lulu.com/content/1842341

Here is the description:

This class is intended for intermediate scripters. Python® scripting in Autodesk® MotionBuilder™ software enables users to automate almost any task. Python itself, as a generic scripting language, is very powerful and easy to use. MotionBuilder gives the Python user access to hundreds of new classes specifically coded to control MotionBuilder elements. The included documentation and sample scripts for Python in MotionBuilder are sparse, and many users cannot overcome the initial challenges of putting a script together. This course aims to illuminate the pitfalls and provide examples and sample code to enable users to write their own scripts tailored to their own workflow. This class shows you how to: * Create objects * Rename objects * Transform objects * Plot animation * Do rigging * Clean up . Includes: 118 page PowerPoint presentation, 72 page Full Documentation, 21 Scripts, 6 Scenes, 2 text files, 8 .mov videos capturing 1 hour 20 minute lecture.
On to the bad news: No GDC for me this year.

I’m afraid I broke my ankle a few weeks ago and the doctor recommended that I stay grounded for a few months to let it heal. Here is an x-ray of my ankle that the hospital was kind enough to provide.

For the lucky ones that will be attending GDC this year, I want you to take notice of how many motion capture related companies will be in attendance and how many of them will have MotionBuilder in there, behind the scenes, aggregating all of the live data their hardware shoots out. At Siggraph the count was somewhere between 9 and 12, the number of booths that had MotionBuilder running. And we are always looking for more partners. If you see cool tech that should be in MotionBuilder, send them my way!

Cheers,

Curtis Garton
