Sorry I haven't written lately. I'm hoping everyone in North America had a good labour day long weekend (a weekend where we try not to labour ironically). I have found the best way to get out of doing anything on the weekend is to offer to smoke ribs on the barbeque. This works on multiple levels. First, everyone likes and wants to be nice to the guy making ribs. Second, but more importantly I smoke ribs for about 6 hours during which I have to monitor cooking temperature and do regular basting which means I am always too "busy" to start something else. Mind you this does not preclude drinks music or TV as those can be done simultaneously, unlike anything that might actually resemble work.
Tuesday morning I jumped on a plane and headed off to Boston. Neoscape was kind enough to let me come by and spend the day filming and interviewing them for a customer profile in design viz. If you haven't heard of Neoscape check out their work on the web. Neoscape is doing a great job of elevating design viz to a much more filmic level. Its also the home of Max Master Lohn Grohs. Despite all my fears of what air travel would be like with all the newest security measures it wasn't that bad. Mental note though, don't book travel the day after labour day weekend. The airport is bound to be really busy and filled with travelers who don't travel enough to know what they are doing.

In case you were wondering what goes into a typical Autodesk customer profile shoot here is a picture of our mess.

In the interview that happened just before this picture we used 2 beta sp cameras 8 lights 3 reflectors and 4 mics. And if you thought that was everything, here is another picture looking the other direction.
Not to worry we do clean up after ourselves. While we were there we shot 6 interviews and a few hours of b roll. All totaled about 7 hours of beta SP footage which will ultimately make a 4 minute video. All this took about 9 hours. Needless to say relaxation was necessary after all that so some of the neoscape crew and myself went out to have a few drinks. This is where I was introduced to a concept called the scorpion bowl race. Fill a bowl with basically fruit cocktail and a lot of alcohol and then get a bunch of straws and drink it as fast as you can. Here you can see the neoscape crew smiling about what they are about to subject me to.

Here we are drinking the bowl (took about 10 seconds by the way)

Here is our wonderful bartender who I blame for encouraging us.
The bar didn't normally serve scorpion bowls but when she heard us mention it, suddenly a kludged together bowl of alcohol appeared. Evil. Things only went downhill from there. I flew home this morning and I must say, I still feel a little fragile. Thanks again to everyone at Neoscape. I'll do my best to make sure you all look good in the videos and I won't tell anyone about all the makeup you had to wear for the shoot.

ummm...last time I mixed fruit and booze, I swore I would never eat watermelon again.
Where can we see the results of this shoot 3D Roadie? Will it be posted to the AREA I wonder?
