Adapting in Montreal
I arrived in Montreal this morning. I'm sitting down with our editor, Alain Durocher and editing the Neoscape footage I shot in Boston a couple weeks ago. So we'll spend the next couple days carving away at 10 hours of footage to create a 4 minute peice that hopefully makes sense. The amount of good footage that is left unused is always a little disappointing. Alas, that’s life.
I'm also here in Montreal to go to the Adapt conference this weekend. I'll be MCing a couple of the guests which have come to talk on behalf of Autodesk. Mitch Gates and Ben Girard from Digital Dimension have come up to talk about work they have done recently, including Taledega Nights and will cover a number of tricks to using Mentalray with Max in film as well as their technique for doing CG slime. On the Maya side we have Mary Anderson from Starz Animation talking about there work on Everyone’s Hero. Mary is going to talk about the techniques they used for crowds, cloth, hair and smoke that looked great but didn't blow the undersized budget. I hope I see some of you there. Come say hi.
Now we come to my real reason for coming to Montreal. No its not the strip clubs, get your mind out of the gutter. There is a drink ,that as far as I can tell, you can only easily get in Québec, called Sortilege Maple Whiskey. Yes folks, not only did Canadians bring you the fine substance called Maple syrup but some extra clever Canuks thought what if you mixed it with alcohol? What would people do without Canada striving to improve alcohol as we know it? Among traveling Autodeskers a trip to get Sortilege has become a must in montreal. Every demo artist has a list of people waiting for a bottle somewhere. Long story short, my stock has been depleted and I'm here to replenish. If you can find a source local to you I recommend it, even if you don't like whiskey. Chill it in the freezer and it also goes well on ice cream. (oh will the innovations never end)
Well that’s me for today

yoy read my mind Dwayne, I'm hoping to do that in future. Its just a matter of time left in the day at the moment
Why don't you guys (Autodesk) post some of the footage that wasn;t used online...i'm sure there would be considerable interest....kind of a directors cut. or at least just a bunch of rough clips. I know i would watch them for sure.
When I lived in Québec, I tasted a very sweet beverage, close to this one: Hot mapple water with rhum. I'm sad we don't get these in France!
