AREA v2 update
Hey everyone, I thought it was time to give an update on the AREA v2. We have many people scurrying around frantically bolting pieces together to ensure that we push this thing out the door by Siggraph, our one year anniversary. Here is a quick item list of some of the changes for V2 as well as a screen shot of the home page...
This is the homepage as it stands at the moment the Image gallery section is actually a series of images you can slide left or right with your mouse to see more artwork.
New Features:
Entirely New Architecture:
Thanks to a redesigned architecture we can now quickly and easily modify or add modules to AREA. Expect to see regular major additions starting within weeks of the Launch. AREA v2 will also work on all major browsers. Yes, you Netscape and Opera people will now finally see the website the same way the rest of us do.
Forums:
We heard you loud and clear. The forums have been completely rebuilt on new software. At launch you can expect a forum system that has all the features and navigation common to other major industry communities. This is only the beginning. After AREA v2 launch, work will continue on the forums to bring you multiple user interfaces and colour schemes to suit your tastes as well as new functionality that goes beyond current communities.
New tutorial system:
AREA v2 is now sporting a streamlined tutorial system that allows anyone to quickly and easily layout and submit a tutorial. Once approved the tutorials become part of the easily searchable tutorial repository. As an additional bonus any tutorial can be downloaded as PDF for offline reading.
Work in Progress:
In addition to our usual galleries and portfolios AREA v2 now includes a work in progress gallery. Now you can get feedback on your work as it develops from sketch to final.
Download system:
The 3d community is a very generous one, with many people donating scripts, materials and plugins. To better support this, an entirely new download infrastructure has been created that allows anyone to upload tools and create a page describing the download as well as imagery, homepage and other useful info.
