For the do it yourselfers of the world
Posted: Nov 07, 2007 - 01:35 PM
If you are like me, you dream of having a Wacom Cintiq tablet. I've always loved their tablets and have two older tablets of my own. Unfortunately, the Cintiq has been a little out of my justifiable purchase range. Well why not build your own...

This site has documented one mans journey to create the DIY video tablet.
I consider myself a relatively handy guy so how hard could this be? I do wood working in my garage and I am not scared to do things like rewire switches and cut holes in my ceiling (still need to get around to patching those holes). Admittedly trying to mash and old LCD monitor and an old Wacom tablet is a tad scarier then drywall dust but dude think of the bragging rights. There is even a forum for people to discuss their own builds and help people through the process.

build your own cintiq

I'm taking a couple of months off this winter after my kid is born and this looks like a cool project to tack on to building the kitchen island, a wall unit and bookshelves. (I know the chances of getting to any of these projects with a newborn in the house are nil but don't burst my bubble) Any "do it your selfers" out there? what do you think?
build in progress - okay it looks a little scary

P.S. Wacom, I promise to take this post down if you see it in your heart to send me a Cintiq. (the new 12wx would be just fine) What can I say, I'm not totally above bribery.
