The 3D Roadie Blog
Since you have come to this link I guess I owe you an explanation of who I am and why you would consider coming back.
I originally come from the "Great White North" of Canada, in my case known as Sault Ste. Marie, and now live in Toronto. For those non Canadians out there (you know who you are) all of Canada is not "The Great White North". The actual dividing line between TGWN and the rest of Canada tends to move a bit but in my estimation it is anywhere that regularly drops below -40 degrees in the winter and/or regularly gets large snowfalls of 2 feet or more at a time. By this estimation Canada should probably annex a few US cities as they properly belong in Canada where people understand what cold is.
I have worked with Autodesk around 9 years now; first as a demo artist for 3ds max and now as Special Projects manager. If you are wondering what the title means, your not alone, most people in Autodesk don't know what it means either (I do my best to keep it that way). The majority of my work involves all the visual material you see coming from Autodesk Media and Entertainment. Videos like the customer Profiles or feature demos, product demonstrations, demos at tradeshows and user events and finally I act as MC for many of our events. All this basically means is that I spend a lot of time in airport lines avoiding the burly customs agent in the little room with the rubber gloves. I've had mixed success on that one.
So what will I be talking about in this blog? Damned if I know. Honestly, I agreed to this months ago and now I find out I have to deliver. Life lesson #1: if you don't want more work, shut up and keep your head down. I do look forward to sharing some of the cool stuff I see when visiting clients (at least what their lawyers will let me). I hope to show you some of the behind the scenes of shooting the client profiles and some of the outtakes as well. The rest of the time will be a rambling steam of consciousness about 3d, my pets, finance, gadgets and anything else that interests me that day. All of this while doing my best not to leak corporate secrets and the recipe to the secret sauce. Oh and as long as I'm traveling, I'm sure you will hear more about the burly guy in the little room with the rubber gloves.
