Arg damn it, I’ve ran into another problem with displacement!

When using a sub-material on a box for example, there’s a part of the box i need rocks on, and this part with rocks has a displacement.

now, I did a “poly-select” on that rocky-part, and THEN chose a smooth-modifier, so only that part has this modifier applied to it?

yet, the smooth modifier doesn’t seem to work, like it’s just not there

added some test-runs to clarify

pic_1 = view over the scene
pic_2 = render with the smooth modifier above the “poly-select” modifier (so it should be at the correct place)
pic_3 = render with the smooth modifier over the entire box (so no poly select-modifier in between)
pic_4 = same as pic_3, but an overview
pic_5 = setup of the scene
