PS: You MUST have your companies permission if they are the legal owner of the software.  So don’t do this without proper authorization.  If you quit, the license is no longer valid and must be removed.

thats what we have done in the past. since i am the sole user of the software there is no violations happening as far as i am aware. we own 2 licenses of max now anyways. i was just inquireing because in the event that i am no longer employed with this firm (hope that never happens), i wanted to keep up my abilities in max at home so i was just sourcing an alternative way to do so legally.

So the whole discussion is a hypothetical in the event you quit or get fired?  Just ask them for a severence… 3dsmax or I won’t leave.

If you are on subscription at work, you also have a Home License that was recently enacted.

Another option is for your company to convert their copy of Max to a Network License version. Then you can borrow the license on your home system for a set period of time (if you can access the company network from home).

Maneswar; where can I find info on the Home LIcense; or on installing on additional machines?  We just crossgraded our (single license) subscription from Viz, and our reseller said we were not allowed to [edit] authorize {/edit] on more than one machine and I had to use the PLU to run Max at home!

You might want to check that.  It has been a while since I read it but as I recall, there is nothing that says you can only install it on one system.  Now installing it on multiple systems for the purpose of letting other artist use one license is of course off limits.  But I have my copy of max authorized on my work system, laptop and home system so not to transfer the license.  I transfer the license only to systems I do not plan to use long term, then return it to the system I borrowed it from.  In all cases, I am the only one using the systems in question.
