Yeah pelting tool is just a more user friendly way of laying out UVs. I can’t instruct you on any pelting process as I don’t use the tool myself, but all you need to do is make sure that after you layout your UVs (Pelting) you check for any over lapping UVs. Other then that the process should be the same. There are many ways to check for overlapping UVs the easiest is to open your UV editor and turn on “Shade UV Display” red is bad blue is good, if everything is red then select all and flip it and go from there.

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.

Is it the standart Maya tool or some plugin?
Unford Uv is very useful. I read some tutors so it might be helpful in many times

interfere? no.... pelt mapping is just a method of UVMapping - but you still want to wait to do it until your done tweaking the geometry…

You can also get it on Highend3d.com, that’s where I got it from.
Thanks for the help!

Okay, so I finished this model I was modeling for about 6 hours, finished the modeling, and deleted history.  I was checkin out the normals, turned on Backface Culling, and saw that they were all flipped.  I pressed the reverse button, and added a texture.  The texture was still not showing up, so I tried the Conform button, and it deleted the geometry!  I have no idea how this happened, but all help is greatly appreciated.
Here are some screenshots.

It’s hard to comment on what’s wrong with out haveing control of the file, but here is another thing to try.
As far as I can see that issue is caused by deleteing the UVs or UV set. which mean you need to create UV coordinate for those faces.

Layout your UVs - For now I recommend just trying an automatic uv mapping until we estabilsh your issue.
Create a new martiral and add it to the geomerty - I’d say use a Blinn
Apply a checker board texture prociderial to the martiral - up the repeat value to like 14 for both U and V
then go in to shaded view (6)

Let’s see were that gets us.

Well, I tried conforming the normals on another polygon mesh with the same problems, and it worked like a charm.  I don’t have any idea what happened to that rifle model, but I still haven’t recovered the missing polygon mesh.  It doesn’t matter that much, I just filled it in with another.  So now that I figured that out, is there anyway I can avoid the texture disappearing problem while modeling?  It seeme to happen on almost all of my models, and I don’t like fixing the normals everytime on my meshes.  Thanks for all the help.
