I began using Maya about a year and a half ago, and I was using Alias' Maya 7.5 PLE, but didn't seriously start using it until about a year ago, when I got Maya 8.5 PLE. I am still saving up for Maya 2008 complete, but I still have a while.

Hey Theodoh, How old are you? I assure you, I’m 14 and have been learning 3ds Max for four months, and have been able to put together some nice scenes (check out my portfolio smile), You should get started with Maya PLE, if you want to learn, and I don’t think you are to young for it, (unless your like under 10), even though it is a bit of a challenge to start learning, within a couple of months you can start doing some good-looking basic scenes.

To Longboarder: Great modeling! That type of modeling is to tedious for me, but I just started modeling a piano. And buy the student version of Maya.

I must say, this is nice stuff. I cant really say im ready to comment, I am way to young for this biz but I’m workin on it. You have some REALLY good works for someone that has been using this for only a year and a half. I dont know how serious you mean, but anyway, youre crankin out some works that i am purley jealous of.

you can buy them from http://digitaltutors.com (Correct me on the address if I’m wrong), they’re pretty expensive but I heard they’re worth it.

Hey in case you’re interested, you can pick up Maya Complete or Unlimited from http://www.academicsuperstore.com.  All you need is to verify that you are a student.  The versions are FULL, but with academic license so you’re not supposed to make money with it.  I got Maya 2008 unlimited, Motionbuilder, Combustion, and Cleaner for less than $400.  It was totally worth it, especially since some of the features are not enabled in the PLE version.

    Thanks for the comments.
