Ron Bublitz is a Canadian, working in Vancouver. His background includes studies in design theory while attaining a Landscape Architecture degree. After experiencing the film Jurassic Park, his mind was opened to the possibility of creating memorable virtual characters - and he wanted to be part of that. At ILM, he championed the use of Maya for feature film animation. A spark of innovation led to whirlwind programming of a previsualization tool called iViz. This tool introduced directors George Lucas and Steven Spielberg to non-linear editing and shot planning within Maya. For Sony Pictures Animation"s first animated feature film, he was responsible for designing and implementing animation tools tailored for traditional animators making the switch to CG animation. His passion for interaction design and for enabling animators to create great performances has been a consistent theme throughout his career. He has also desired to make Maya scripting/programming easier as well. He has written plugins for jEdit and Eclipse for mel syntax highlighting, communicating to/from Maya, and autocompletion docs for Maya. Overall, he has worked somewhat behind the scenes as an enabler and a creative innovator.
