    for someone who just got started with 3d this looks pretty good, there are some flaws but a good start, a bit exagerated to give this picture a 5 out of 5 -rating, though.
    It diminishes the reall outstanding pictures out there

    Ok, I got the fractal bump down, but the only time it shows it is when it's rendered. Is this normal?

    Ok select the sand shader i think its lambert right? well scroll dow until you see bump mapping,click on the Checkerboard thing to the right and scroll til you see Fractal and add that to it you can mess with the ratios and noise to mmake it more realistic but i think that will help.
