pretty nice so far, it just feels "flat". It looks to me that ambient occlusion and global illumination are missing from this. If I were to guess, I'd say that you have a big spot light over the bed that lights up the room (and also causing you to have shadows going the wrong way). Move that to the window, make it a sun light (or spot) and let mental ray do the rest. something else that would help is make the light from outside darker, it looks like there are ceiling lights on but are serving no purpose. also, be careful with direct lights. It looks like there may be one in the scene judging from the book under the bed-end. the tops of them are all lit up but there is no light source getting to them. please dont feel bad about the comments. You are headed in the right direction. If you update it, please let me know, I'd love to see it!
