Hi Craig, Great video. I wanted to echo Pedro's comments above "you almost covered the mental ray rendering portion of this amazing technology. Do you by any chance have that presentation recorded for the general public to watch? Would be great to know how to use properly the vector displacement maps, normal maps and the specular maps. The workflow in the overall." It would be great to see a video on this or at least read a description of the best workflow for setting up mental ray. Thanks, Heather

While experimenting with PTEX, I encountered an issue where face edges appear white, and a circuit-like design appears over the model. Is there a work-around?

Hello Craig, thanks for the excellent webinar on Ptex. Unfortunately the details about actually using the ptex textures in Maya are "sketchy" at best, and I have followed the directions thoroughly and still can't get any results with using the MIB Ptex Lookup to work. Everything renders black (phong). So, could you find it in your heart to help us implement ptex in Maya with Mental Ray. There's thousands of frustrated Mudbox users out there who are going through the same thing as I am. I cannot seem to find any information that solves the problem of getting simple Ptex color textures connected to a shader. I'm on a Mac and when I try and edit the maya.rayrc file, I get a warning that "I don't own the maya.rayrc" file and that only a copy can be made etc. However, I did manage to edit and replace the file with the "edited" version and Mental Ray seems to be working fine with this new "edited" file. It would seem to me that this "edit" should be a standard part of the MR code, and perhaps Maya (or in this case, Mental Ray 2014 Standalone) might be included in a hotfix or service pack in the future, so that we don't have to jump through these hoops...I always get a little nervous when I have to manually edit program files because I'm not the sharpest tack in the box. As well, perhaps the MIB_PTEX_LOOKUP could include a checkerbox to click on that will allow the standard navigation to a texure file. So, if there is anything you can do to help us, it would be greatly appreciated. More power to PTEX!!! Thanks! Sincerely, Stumanchu

Loved the tutorial Craig! On the final minutes of your presentation you almost covered the mental ray rendering portion of this amazing technology. Do you by any chance have that presentation recorded for the general public to watch? Would be great to know how to use properly the vector displacement maps, normal maps and the specular maps. The workflow in the overall. PS: it would be awesome if you could include the workflow for all the maps using the mia_material_x or mia_material_x_passes (pretty much the same) since it's majorly improved over the regular maya materials. Thank you in advance! Cheers, Pedro

The Adobe Connect servers went down for the first broadcast for Europe. Hopefully everything will be ok for the 1pm PST broadcast this afternoon. Either way, the presentation should be available on youtube tomorrow. I will also embed it as an entry here for questions. - Craig
