-  Announcing BonusTools for Maya 2016 Extension 2 -

Because of the API changes for Maya 2016 Extension 2 we needed to recompile the various BonusTools plugins and create new installers.  So while we were at it we decided to throw in a couple of new features just for fun.  This includes two new modeling tools called "Curve to Ribbon" and "Curve to Tube" as well as a new "Weight Editor" UI for managing and refining skin weight values.

Stop by the - BonusTools Resource Page - for updated links to installers, bug fixes, feature tutorials, etc...

Below you can check out a demo of the new modeling tools.  Stay tuned for a tutorial on the new Weight Editor in the coming weeks.

@HamburgerTrain - That is baffling. I don't understand what could be causing that. There must be some setting somewhere that I wasn't accounting for in the script, but I've tried everything I can think of and can't reproduce the problem. The Curve type shouldn't matter. As far as I can tell the Extrude options shouldn't matter. Based on the line # it looks like it might be crapping out when creating the instance of the curve. Any chance you can record a Jing so I can see your steps? https://www.techsmith.com/jing.html

Hi Steven, It happens on a blank scene too. I reinstalled Bonus Tools and am using fresh prefs so for the life of me I can't work out what's wrong. Are we supposed to use a specific curve type? I execute this: python "from bt_curveToTubeMesh import *";python "bt_curveToTubeMesh()"; and receive this: bt_curveToTubeMesh.py line 39: list index out of range # On CV Curves, EP Curves and Bezier Curves. Are there certain preferences in Maya that need to be enabled? Like as in the Surface > Extrude options?

Cool. I think though to make it complete you should add the ability to animate the "length" parameter and have the extrusion grow along the curve. Currently editing the length parameter doesn't affect the mesh at all.

@HamburgerTrain - strange... I have not seen that. Does it work with a new scene and a simple curve? or just not at all?

I am really happy about the ribbon and pipe tool. Thanks for your efforts to do this, it will be so useful. Unfortunately I tried this with a few different combinations of curves and blank scenes but always end up with this error; # Error: line 1: IndexError: file X/My Documents/maya/scripts\bt_curveToTubeMesh.py line 39: list index out of range Is there something I'm missing? Thanks Steven.
