Webcast: Boost your productivity with Maya Bonus Tools and Layout Tools

By Steven Roselle - 6 Jan, 2012 - Maya

Happy new year y'all!!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I'll be hosting an upcoming webinar, or webcast, or webadoodle, or whatever you want to call it in a couple of weeks.  The focus will be on Maya Bonus Tools and LayoutTools.  I'll go into detail on a number of key tools in each package.  A wide range of topics and workflows will be covered including: Modeling, UV Editing, Animation Editing, Character Rigging, and general project management.  I'll also be showing some sneak peaks at some future tools that will be added in the next release including tools such as:  Slide Components, Flatten Components and the new and improved Pose Blend Shape Editor.

Here's a quick sneak peak of what I'll be covering.  I touch on the new tools at around the 3 minute mark.

mykotron - I don't have a definitive release date, but it should be available within the next couple of months. I may actually post SlideComponents earlier and separately in a beta form so people can check it out.

Hi Steven, Will you be recording this webcast and posting it later? It might be a little too early for us in Europe to tune in on your live webcast :) Cheers!

duttyfoot & doffer - Just to clarify... I was referring to the next release of BonusTools not Maya proper. So no, the Pose Blend tool won't be a native (i.e. built in) Maya tool. It is a separate tool that will be included in the BonusTools package.

hey doffer he already said it will be "I'll also be showing some sneak peaks at some future tools that will be added in the next release including tools such as: Slide Components, Flatten Components and the new and improved Pose Blend Shape Editor."

Hi Steven. Looking at the video, you show a Pose Blend Shape tool. Does this mean maya features a native pose space deformation tool from future versions? Because that would be pretty awesome :) Nice you keep updating so much :) keep 'em coming

mayanic - thanks for the reminder... I actually figured out a way to do it with LayoutTools. I'll add that to my list of things to cover in the webcast. If you want to try it for yourself first... then you can use the Placement->Position->Offset buttons. Just set the Space to Edge. Select the edge you want to move along followed by the object you want to move. Then set the value for units. Then click Offset+ or Offset- to incrementally move/nudge the object by that value along the edge

hi steve, like always - sounds promising . .. hope the little MEL script in order to move along a custom axis with a specific value might be one of the new features ;) hope so perhaps you can share that script earlier or at least give me a hint how to do it?! thx and keep on mayanic
