Flame 2021.2 brings compositors, colorists, and finishing editors greater creative flexibility, performance, and integrated finishing refinements. Building on previous releases of AI-powered sky, human body, head, and face part extraction, an innovative new object-based Keyer identifies and provides a matte for the most obvious object in a bounding box. This update also adds significant speed and ergonomic improvements within Flame’s Effects environment, a new in-context node Search tool, and media format updates.
AI-Powered Salient Keyer
A new Salient Keyer uses object recognition machine learning technology to identify and provide a matte for the most obvious or ‘salient’ object in a bounding box.
ML object detection with the Salient Keyer
Isolating with the Salient Keyer (Region of Interest)
The bounding box can be animated, and reframing will produce amazing results for objects that can be recognized.
Effects Tab Navigation Speed Improvements
This release dramatically enhances the speed of interaction for navigating and scrubbing larger, more complex timelines. Additionally, machine learning models now load on-demand, caching is improved, and storyboard thumbnail generation is optimized. A new Single vs. Dual panel UI layout is also now available, intuitively displaying all the tools at your disposal.

New Search Tool
A new, fast-access Search tool has been added to allow you to easily add nodes in the Batch, BFX, and Action Schematics, as well as in the Image node and Gmask Tracer tools. This makes it easy for you to quickly search through all addable nodes and intuitively attach them to schematics.
New Search tool
This search allows you to add regular nodes in Batch, Action, OFX plugins, and Matchboxes. Additional community-generated Matchbox tools will even appear in the list.
A new preference panel for Search allows you to control which nodes you see and which you don’t based on a favoriting, tagging, and hiding system.

Media Format Enhancements
Arri, Red, Codex X2X HDE, Pixspan, and Sony XAVC formats have all been updated with this release. Additionally, content created in Flame Family products can now be exported in Portable Network Graphics (PNG) format.
