lol I would read the EULA, but its too much reading just to find out if its illegal or not. w/e I will still upload cool textures for you guys. (i agree with the pointless splitting-of-hairs so this is my last, as some people would say, "come back")

Sorry to disagree as well ;-) If your EULA contains explicitly stated permission to extract and share textures, then you're good to go. Ultimately this debate would be an incredibly pointless splitting-of-hairs to continue, but i can't imagine you'd be in danger of anything more threatening than a scowl from the license holder. Personally, i lean towards the belief that anyone who buys the media should have permission to use the contents any way they please. But that's an age old debate only corporate lawyers can win.

sorry to counter your comment, but since Microsoft made a Halo CE for modders and theirs a major website on creating maps for Halo CE and Microsoft has done nothing about it. Im saying this because on the website their are packs of textures extracted from the game itself and you can download them. Also when you get Halo CE and install it it comes with Textures, Tags, Maps, and other goodies that can be modified and thats why i think that it is not illegal. The extracting part of it. I would probably agree if it was a different game that does not allow stuff like that.

Without question, the act of extracting the image is illegal. But so long as you are not profiting by it or infringing in their profits, you're usually safe from anything more than an angry form letter.

thanks for the warning. mad me think. it is not illegal as long as i don't make a profit in some way.

I think it is illegal to extract textures from games and publish them on a website........I could be wrong though. P.S. :- In case you are wondering, the only reason why modders are allowed to extract textures is because they extract it to make mods for the the game they extract it from.
