The King's Altar
Hi everyone,
Here is the project I did during the past couple of months : the King’s Altar.
I drew inspiration from some objects I was able to scan and my taste for curiosity cabinets.
I have been wanting to create this project for some time now but I first experimented a lot with photogrammetry before being able to get the quality I wanted.
I ended up creating a set up with two lights and a black backdrop, some polarizing filters and a turntable covered with black velvet (thank you IKEA !).
It was for me an opportunity to apply the skills I learnt as a lighting artist the last two years in prod on a personal project and show a bit more of myself.
Thanks to this project I pushed a bit further my knowledge in other specilities than mine, especially in Lookdev which I appreciate more and More. Scanning the objects with cross polarisation resulted in having the diffuse already available. I exported the displacement map using Zbrush and the Multimap Exporter.
Thanks to Substance Painter, I created the missing maps : Specular, Roughness, Bump etc...
I re-created the lookdev in a separate scene first. I had done an HDRI map from my photogrammetry set up and exported the lightmaps from it. Using reference pictures, I then tried to match the best i could.
As i created each object, I ended up changing my composition bit by bit. I also implemented the lighting throughout the whole composition process.
Thank you to every soul who gave me some feedback on this piece and also to the three friends who worked on the spiders : Agathe Dhondt, Margot Grivet and Manon Ficat.
Finally, I wanted to make the assets available to download, one of them free and the others at a small price. You can follow this link :
